My Journey to Becoming a Pilot

November 25, 2020: As the sun set over Beverly Hills, I finished my last shift at a wine bar, another casualty of the pandemic's second wave. A customer jokingly asked if I had a pilot’s license, sparking an idea that seemed impossible—me, a pilot? Raised in small-town Alabama, the thought had never crossed my mind. Aviation wasn’t on the radar for women like me.

But as I walked home that night, I felt a quiet yet powerful voice saying, "You can do this." With immense support and countless hours of research, I decided to pursue this audacious dream, despite my fears of math and science. The first step? A discovery flight on December 20, 2020.

The journey wasn’t easy, but the magic of flight fueled me. By July 22, 2021, I earned my Private Pilot License. What started as an offhand remark at a wine bar became a life-changing adventure. Now, I’m ready to blaze new trails, proving it’s never too late to rewrite your story, add plot twists and character arcs no one sees coming.
